Pharmacy Museum

On the corner of the Groenplaats, you will notice a building built in 1820, renovated and made into an attractive trattoria. Part of the building has been converted into a pharmacy museum with a doctor’s surgery.

19th century shelves, pots and jars containing authentic products, herbs, oils, pipettes, pill pushers represent an original collection in a magnificent context. Next to the surgery, you will find  an original delivery chair, delivery forceps and even autopsy material. Moreover, you can also admire a number of glass and stone pots, measuring cups and beakers, a dentist chair, a counter with a desk and several medical books.

This whole collection is kept in its original state by the Humblé family, who exploited as of the 19th century a chemist’s annex pharmacy and as of 1891 the medical practice of Dr. Gerard Humblé. His son, Doctor Frans Humblé continued his practice till 1970. In 1985, the widow Humblé transferred the content of this medical practice to vzw Renovatie Rekem.
